Forty years after “Ulysse,” a groundbreaking work by choreographer Jean-Claude Gallotta, he presents his feminine and contemporary counterpart at Les Gémeaux. While “Ulysse” was immersed in white, “Pénélope” and its multiple performers evolve within a darker theme. In the heart of darkness, light emerges from the dance, its sensual impulses, its fervor, its lifts, and its rhythmic ruptures. Ambivalent as a whole, the performance creates a multi-faceted portrait of the Homeric heroine, imagined as a protean representative of all women. With this new mythological interpretation, Jean-Claude Gallotta continues his spontaneously rebellious work on the stage of Les Gémeaux, exuding contagious vitality. It is a way for the choreographer to show that despite all defeats, life persists with obstinacy.
