“Any attempt will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones“. This sentence of rare violence was pronounced by the Chinese president Xi Xinping in 2019, on the occasion of the demonstrations in Hong Kong. Jan Martens offers here a choreographed response, capable of questioning the great movements of mobilization and their deployment in the face of tyranny, oppression, and climate issues. 17 dancers of all ages, with unique profiles and technical backgrounds, move around the stage, imagined as a “possible democracy“. The bewitching score of Gorecki’s Concerto for Harpsichord and Strings accompanies the formation of this ideal community throughout the show.
